I have the honour to address you with_'

reference to the position of Crown Solicitor which I understand is shortly to become vacant by reason of the resignation of Mr. Bowley, the present Crown Solicitor.

I am unaware of what the intentions of the Government are with reference to the appointment of a Solicitor to fill the position of Crown Solicitor but if I am in any way eligible for the position and the Goverment is agreeable to appoint a Solicitor from amongst any of the Assistant Solicitors at present in this Colony I beg to offer my name to the con- -sideration of the Government.

I might mention that I have held the positio

of Senior Managing Clerk to Messrs. Deacon, Looker and Deacon of this Colony for the last six ears prior to which I served for seven years in a Solicitors' office, Messrs. Steavenson and Couldwell of No. 5 Fenchurch Street, London, five years of which I was an Articled Clerk and afterwards as Managing Admitted Clerk to the same firm. I am 33 years of age and have had a good experience of the local practice in this Colony and have also been admitted and have practised in "is Majesty's Supreme Court for China and Korea,

I shall deom it a favour if you can in any

way further my nomination for the position of Crown Solicitor and any further particulars you may deem necessary or desirable I shall be happy to supply.

I have etc., (sd.) D. V. Steavenson.

The Hon. E.

A. M. Thomson, Colonial Secretary.
